Living conditions and quality of life – Unaffordable and inadequate housing in Europe (Eurofound)

Eurofound published a report on the topic of ‘Unaffordable and inadequate housing in Europe’.

The report covers the significant issue of unaffordable housing in the EU, which leads to homelessness, housing insecurity, financial strain, and inadequate housing. It also emphasises the negative impacts on health, well-being, living conditions, opportunities, healthcare costs, productivity, and the environment. The report further talks about the challenges faced by private tenants and owners with mortgages, as well as the poverty and housing inadequacy experienced by owners without mortgages, particularly in post-communist and southern European countries. It also mentions the varying capacity of social housing and rent subsidies across countries and the limitations in reaching all entitled individuals, including vulnerable groups  and maps housing problems and policies in the EU.

The report furthermore highlights Housing First, its successful implementation in the past, and advocates for its widespread adoption throughout the EU.
