The Making the Shift initiative, launched in April 2017 by A Way Home Canada and the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, aims to transform how youth homelessness is addressed in Canada. The project will combine prevention strategies and a rights-based “Housing First for Youth” (HF4Y) model and will be rolled out in ten communities across Alberta and Ontario, targeting more than 1,300 young people and their families in the first phase. It brings together researchers, community practitioners, government partners and funders to build a stronger evidence base for effective youth homelessness interventions and to shift policy away from emergency responses toward strategic investment in prevention and stable housing.
